What value should I declare for customs?

When shipping your dress, your declared value is the price your dress sold for. This ensures duties and taxes are calculated accurately.

Declaring the value too high

Declaring a higher value, such as the original retail price, may result in larger fees for the buyer and the dress returned at your expense. Declaring your item accurately will help avoid unnecessary taxes.

Declaring a low value to avoid import fees

If you declare too low a value, it may be considered unreasonable and adjusted upward, which could be higher than the actual sale price. Also, because you are required to insure your package for the sale price, your insurance value should match your declared value.

Marking your item as a gift

Typically, declaring a package as 'second hand' or 'gift' won't have any bearing on the duties and taxes payable.
