The Dress
Every time I walked into a bridal store I said “whatever happens, I’m not trying on a cupcake big poofy dress. Get the sparkles away from me. Get the bling away from me. I want something slick and sleek.”
Oops?
I ended up in this Ronald Joyce dress because, despite the full skirt and the sparkle, it is a beautiful golden colour – and I was very keen to avoid a white gown on my fair skin. The golden tone popped out against every other dress surrounding it and I thought “why not. I’ll try it on. Just for the colour.”
The second I had the dress on I felt like more than a princess. I was a gosh darn queen. The sparkly top brightens everything in sight, the layers of tulle swish and move so freely and easily, the gold makes your skin pop, the inner corset is somehow both ridiculously sexy but classy at the same time… It ticked every box. I was hesitant to pay the price for the dress (it was wayyyyyy above my budget) but every other dress paled in comparison.
I am an Australian size 10-12 with a 29 inch waist and 38 inch bust (12C-D cup size). The dress fit me like a glove. It works perfectly for an hourglass figure and really highlights the waist. I’m 163cm tall and had the dress adjusted to fit my height with 11cm shoes (leaving the train full). I had a professional bridal dressmaker add a ribbon to bring up the train into a bustle for the d-floor. Our wedding was at a Christmas tree farm and it held up extremely well – you can wear it anywhere, not just in a formal setting!
The top section of the dress fits firmly and holds your bust in place. You can add a privacy panel into the front if you don’t want to reveal as much chest. The full skirt is made of layers and layers of tulle at different thicknesses, and my dressmaker advised that you could have these taken out if you want to. I was tempted to take them out but she also said that it’s not very often you get to wear a dress like this and if you want to go all out – DO IT!
I thought I would keep the dress forever and ever in case any children I have want to wear it/see it, but after some discussions with friends I think I’d rather not put that pressure on my future offspring. It would bring me more joy to see another bride save a stack of money and wear my magical dress on their own magical day.
