Understanding Dress Wear & Tear

Pre-loved and sample dresses can show minor signs from trying on or handling — most are easy to fix.

Trying on a dress or shipping it can leave minor, normal marks.

“Acceptable wear” means small, minimal, and easily fixable signs. These are generally issues that can be cleaned, brushed off, removed with a lint roller, trimmed, spot cleaned, or repaired without much effort.

Quick checklist of acceptable wear:

  • Loose threads, minor issues with bra cups or bodice lining
  • Internal marks on lining or underlayers
  • Marks from touching objects or the floor
  • Pet fur, dust, or stray fibers
  • Marks inside the neckline or straps from makeup or self-tanner (not visible from the outside)
  • Missing or loose buttons, button loops, beads, or gems

Sample Gowns: What to Expect

Sample dresses are used in-store and may show more noticeable wear. Always ask for current photos to check the condition.

Common signs of wear on samples

  • Zipper tops worn from handling
  • Neckline and underarms from makeup or lotion
  • Grey or scuffed hems from floor contact
  • Discolored straps from hangers or fittings
  • Stretched button loops from repeated use

This guide helps you know what to expect and feel confident in your pre-loved dress purchase.
