Vivienne Westwood Galaxy Cape Gown
Worn for my wedding in August 2025 and then professionally cleaned

This is the description from the designer:
"The Galaxy Cape is a new interpretation of the Galaxy dress, which was originally created for the red carpet, featuring a cinched waist and draped neckline inspired by the classic Vivienne Westwood Ball Tie gown. The gown is created in pearl white FSC-certified crepe satin, with a contrasting silk georgette drape across the décolletage, certified as organic, and 18th-century Watteau style train for added drama.
This dress is available in crepe satin with a georgette cape certified as organic. The crepe satin comprises 73% acetate and 27% viscose, both certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This guarantees wood fibres used in fabrics we source come from FSC™ certified forests that have been audited by a third-party on their environmental, social and economic standards. We also partner with Canopy to support their goal of protecting the world’s forests by working to eliminate Ancient and Endangered Forests from wood fibre sourcing for fabrics and packaging."

This dress is super comfortable and lightweight. You need two people to zip you in but it really doesn't move once it's on. It's comfortable to sit in (even helps you sit up a little straighter) and it doesn't slide down at all. It was 80°F (27°C) for my wedding and the ceremony was in the sun but I wasn't sweating. The cape is a separate piece that attaches to the top of the back of the dress using 4 buttons. I wore the cape for my ceremony and took it off before the reception. The dress was bought from Belle Atelier so there is a tag with their name next to the Vivienne Westwood tag inside the dress.

Fit/Sizing
- No alterations have been made to the length of the dress. I am 5'7" (170cm) and wore 3" (70mm) heels with the dress but I definitely could have worn heels with a little bit more height. The fabric of the dress does extend a few inches up the inside of the dress to the hem so the length could be altered to extend a few inches if needed.
- The corset and fit of the dress have not been altered. The labeled size is UK8/US4/IT40/FR36. The Vivienne Westwood bridal size guide lists this size as 34.64" (88cm) bust, 25.98" (66cm) waist, and 37" (94cm) hip. My measurements are 34" bust, 25.5" waist, and 35.5" hip (measured at widest part of hip). I'm usually a 32C or 32D and definitely could have shown more cleavage in this dress if I wanted to (how you hold everything when you're zipped in makes a big difference if that makes any sense). A smaller cup size would definitely fit in the dress but any bigger would likely need some alterations.

Alterations/Repairs
- There are two hook and eye closures on the back of the dress (at the top of zipper and where the corset meets the skirt) that I had replaced with slightly sturdier hooks before my wedding but they aren't visible when the dress is on.
- There were a few nicks/very small holes in the cape after my wedding which I had repaired by the cleaners before the professional dry cleaning. They came from the stone/brick path that was the aisle and are closed now. There were 4-5 of them and they are not noticeable, but they are visible if looking very closely.
- There are a few very small discolorations/marks at the hem of the dress but none are noticeable when the dress is on. There are some small signs of wear (light pilling) inside the dress at the hem where shoes rub against the dress when walking in it.
- One of the thin ribbons used to hang the dress is torn. The two ribbons inside the dress by the armpits are being used to hang the dress right now but there is a third one at the back near the zipper that is torn. I don't know what the third one would be used for and it isn't visible when the dress is on.
- The garment bag has a tear in the front next to the zipper. The dress is currently in a bag from the dry cleaners and there is no smoking in the home. We have a pet in the home, but the dress is kept in garment bags in a place the pet cannot access.
